Hello and Welcome to Capital Hair Center

Hair transplantation is a medical procedure whose success increases every year with developing technologies. In hair transplantation, the general health status of the patient’s hair follicles, whether it is suitable for hair transplantation or not, as well as which method to use is also important issue. Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) and the Sapphire FUE technique are the most widely used techniques in hair transplantation. These hair transplant techniques, which are widely used in hair transplantation in Turkey, can sometimes be misunderstood by patients. So, what are the main differences between these two techniques and the medical methods they use?

What is the DHI technique?

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is the placement of the hair follicles collected one by one directly to the desired area with Choi Implanter Pen. The tips of the pens used in DHI are quite thin. Its thickness varies between 0.6 mm and 1 mm. In the DHI technique, transplantation and the opening channel are performed directly at the same time. In the DHI hair transplant method in Turkey, we have two stages: collection and placement; therefore, DHI will not require to open channel.

What is the Sapphire FUE Technique?

Sapphire FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is based on the principle that the channels are made with sapphire-tipped blades, which are very sharp. In the Sapphire FUE hair transplant method in Turkey, damage to the tissue is minimized as the channels are opened at a micro level. The channels can be transplanted naturally and frequently according to the direction of hair growth in Sapphire FUE. Thus, a more natural appearance can be obtained.

What are the Differences between Sapphire FUE and DHI Technique in Hair Transplant
There are some particular differences between Sapphire FUE and DHI techniques based on their methods, which patients it will be applied to, and recovery times disintegrate. We can list the differences between the Sapphire FUE hair transplant method and the DHI hair transplant method as follows:

• Shaving the donor area is required when performing the Sapphire FUE technique, but not when performing the DHI technique. This distinction allows long-haired people to choose which surgery they prefer. For those who prefer to have short hair, the Sapphire FUE technique is far more practical.
• Sapphire FUE is less expensive than DHI treatment in terms of cost. The equipment used to perform DHI is more expensive, which affects the overall cost of the surgery.
• The FUE Sapphire technique is used to treat large areas of alopecia where no hair grows. The DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique is typically used on smaller areas with existing hair but a lack of density.
• The completion times of the procedures during hair transplantation also vary. Sapphire FUE lasts between 6-8 hours, while DHI lasts between 8-10 hours.
• While the hair does not need to be shaved in the DHI method, the hair needs to be shaved for Sapphire FUE. Therefore, people who do not want their hair cut may prefer the DHI method.
• The number of grafts that can be planted in a session varies from 3000s to 5000s grafts when using the Sapphire FUE technique. This amount is restricted to the DHI procedure. The number of grafts that can be planted during a DHI session ranges from 1500s to 2500s grafts. This means that the Sapphire FUE method is best suited for large areas, whereas the DHI method offers a better chance of achieving higher density.
• Especially for the forehead line work, doctors do the zigzag method, they don’t do the transplantation as a straight line to provide a natural forehead line. With the DHI pen, even the doctor will try to do the zigzag method, because the pen is thicker, and it will look straight. The forehead line work won’t be useful with the DHI work. Therefore, DHI results are not good for the forehead line work, the forehead line looks higher and straight and it looks like prosthesis hair.
• The survival rate of transplanted grafts is higher than the DHI method.
• People with DHI hair transplants can recover faster and quicker than Sapphire FUE hair transplants.

Are There Any Similarities between DHI and Sapphire FUE Hair Transplantation?

Both techniques are of the FUE variety, which is a graft extraction method. Only the indications and the implantation process are different. With two techniques, people can return to their job and daily life easily.
